Problem with "Keyboard' option in Trigger dialog

When I tried to have it record my keystroke in the field, it didn't 'see' it then I just started typing and can put in a long text stirng like "hhtshtnsht". when I hit 'ok' it doesn't accept the obviously erroneous value nor does it accept a valid entry.

It happens when using "keyboard detector". Uncheck Options -> Trigger -> Low level hook -> keyboard.
